BERSIH Sabah Gesa Hentikan Budaya Katak Lompat

Budaya katak lompat akan musnahkan demokrasi kerana rakyat melihat pemimpin sebagai tidak jujur, opportunis dan khianati mandat rakyat

Sabah Bersih calls for end to frog culture

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Bersih hopes that the new government will practice a governance of high accountability and transparency, as well as fair and professional ethics.

According to the Bersih secretariat, the outdated political culture left behind by Barisan Nasional should be discarded and replaced with a more developed political culture that meets the principles of good governance and upholds human rights.

According to their statement, the recent political development that sees Sabah with two chief ministers in rapid succession, and the jumping of representatives and party members from one side to another were not right.

The statement also said that a fixed cabinet should also be set up as soon as possible for the stability of the state.

Sabah needs a strong opposition party to conduct the check and balance to ensure the new government carries out its responsibilities towards the rakyat with great transparency and diligence, it said.

“Sabah Bersih would like to remind all political party candidates to hold on to the principle and trust from the rakyat who voted for them based on the logo that they contested for,” it said.

“The frog culture only serves to destroy democracy because the rakyat will judge the political candidates as dishonest, opportunists, and have betrayed the voters’ mandate,” it added.

The statement said what the rakyat wanted was change, not only in terms of changing the governing party, but also to see that changes are done according to democratic principle and accountability.

“Sabah Bersih urges the party that commands the majority of assemblymen to be allowed to form the state government with great urgency,” it said.

“The candidates must realise that he/she was voted based on the party logo, principles and election manifesto bore by their respective parties,” it said.

It said if they want to switch camps and join other political parties, they should step down and allow for by-elections to take place to see if they truly have the support of the rakyat.
