KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PAS will field 17 new faces out of its list of 26 candidates contesting in the 14th General Election.
This includes a non-Muslim candidate Satail Manjungkat, 61, from Pitas who will contest for Kadamaian state seat under the Kota Belud parliamentary constituency.
Party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said Satail will be the first non-Muslim candidate to be fielded by Sabah PAS.
“There are Chinese and non-Muslim Indian candidates in Pulau Pinang and Perak, as well as, Negri Sembilan who had contested under Pas’ ticket in the past elections.
“(But) This is the first time for Sabah. We give him our full trust as we will fight for the rights for all, not just Muslims.
“It is this (concept) that had attracted non-Muslims in Sabah to join the party, ” he said.
Also present was Sabah Pas commissioner Aminuddin Aling.
Earlier, he said Pas will contest in eight parliamentary and 18 state seats which saw an addition of 15 seats as compared to the last polls.
“Before this, we only contested for 11 seats with two parliamentary and nine state seats.
“For GE14, two women will also be fielded,” he added.
As for the Islamic party’s targets, Abdul Hadi said they are hoping to win at least one of the 26 seats.
“Although they are many opposition parties in Sabah, we have our strategy to deliver the message that Islam is fair to everyone,”
“We want the voice of Sabah people to be heard at Parliament and State Assembly.” he said.
