Kadir Jasin resigns as Council of Eminent Persons spokesman

PETALING JAYA: Datuk A. Kadir Jasin has resigned as Media and Communications head of the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP), according to a Bernama tweet.

Kadir came under fire for his recent views on the Yang diPertuan Agong.

The veteran newsman, who is also a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia supreme council member, in his personal blog post said that some RM257mil was spent for the upkeep and personal expenditure of Sultan Muhammad V in the 16 months since he became the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

His blog post was also criticised by PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who said, "While I support democracy and freedom of expression, what was said was inappropriate."

Anwar said that there should be some decorum when expressing views, as those singled out for criticism were unable to clarify such opinions.

"We have worked very hard to get the Malay Rulers to appreciate this new administration" and this was unhealthy," he told reporters after a closed-door meeting with PKR assemblymen and MPs on Wednesday (June 6).

Headed by former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, the CEP also includes former Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Petronas CEO Tan Sri Hassan Marican and renowned economist Prof Jomo Kwame Sundaram.
