Bebaskan Kementerian Kewangan

Tinggal 93 hari lagi.

HANDS OFF THE FINANCE MINISTRY

With so many corruption scandals associated with the past regime, it is perplexing to see Tun Dr. Mahathir can so naively nominate an individual with an active corruption court case as Malaysia’s next Finance Minister knowing that such nomination will not pass muster.

Then the PM later clarify that no other name will be considered for the position and all legal procession will need to be fully exhausted before Lim Guan Eng can formally assume his duties. In the absence of a proper minister, any matters of importance requiring approval and actions will then be directed to the Prime Minister.

So indeed, this is just another ploy to bring back the Finance Ministry directly under the Prime Minister?

As economic matters and transparency take centre stage in this new federal regime, it is important that the role of Finance Minister is made separate from the Prime Minister. The precedent of the Prime Minister taking the role of Finance Minister actually started during the time of none other than Tun Dr Mahathir himself and has been identified as one of the key problem factors besetting the management of the country’s economy.

PH elected wakil rakyats, The Eminent Persons and the newly formed Institutional Reform Committees should quickly highlight this issue to the PM and rectify the situation, in keeping with the promises to create a better government that is open and free from conflict of interest and corruption.

93 days and counting.
