PAS Looking For Sabah Opposition ‘TIE Up’; Eyes 20 State Seats

“We understand the scenario here, where (other opposition parties) want Sabah for Sabahans, and we are aware that the people will be more focused on parties close to them. Sabah PAS hopes to contest in 20 state and four parliamentary seats, including some of the 13 proposed new state seats." Mustafa Ali

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PAS is hoping to ‘tie up’ with other opposition parties in the state to face the 14th general election, with its Election Director, Datuk Mustafa Ali, saying PAS is everywhere and we appeal to everyone.

However, Mustafa said that any ongoing discussion is “only being done unofficially” as PAS has broken off with leading federal-based opposition parties like Amanah, DAP and PKR.
Mustafa said they were ready to discuss any collaboration, especially with Sabah-based parties.
“Otherwise, we will face the election on our own,” he told a media conference here Sunday said their visit to Sabah was to observe the political situation here, following reports that state elections could be held earlier.
“We understand the scenario here, where (other opposition parties) want Sabah for Sabahans, and we are aware that the people will be more focused on parties close to them.”
He also disclosed that Sabah PAS hopes to contest in 20 state and four parliamentary seats, including some of the 13 proposed new state seats.
He said however it is up to the PAS election centre to review the recommendations and a decision will be reached later.
In the 13th general election, Sabah PAS contested in nine state and two parliamentary seats, under the federal-based opposition pact with DAP and PKR but they have since cut ties with the two.
PAS did not win any seat. It has been further weakened in Sabah when a group of their leaders and members crossed over to the splinter party – Parti Amanah Negara.
